STORY:
GREEN WALL DESIGNS is proud to have been part of the 68th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, collaborating with a large team of creatives and technicians, including production designer Florian Wieder and the host broadcaster SVT’s Show and Contest team. We were tasked with developing the lighting and video design for all LED surfaces, including the opening and interval acts, as well as all of the home looks for the show. Green Wall also produced and managed all external lighting and video content and collaborated the 37 delegations in realizing their stage visions to life.
We are delighted with the final result, which featured a stage solution placed in the middle of the arena, surrounded by the audience, creating a 360-degree experience. This innovative approach offered a unique experience for viewers and the live audience. Together with Florian Wieder and his team, as well as producers from SVT, we drew inspiration from modern music and tour production, and the vibrant region around Malmö and Öresund. The theme “UNITED BY MUSIC” worked seamlessly with the in-around concept, placing the audience in the camera shots and perfectly encapsulating our inclusive and warm atmosphere.
We also collaborated closely with Sidney Lin, who, along with his team, developed the idents and graphics design for the show under the theme ‘The Eurovision Lights.’ This concept combined elements of the Northern Lights with the harmonic rhythms of sound equalizers.
The lighting and video design featured various modular elements, such as moving LED cubes, moving lighting pods, and additional stage technology to create dynamic looks and great flexibility for each performance and moments in the show. The lighting system was one of the largest grandMA3 control networks for lighting, playback video, lasers, and PixMob (LED wristbands) to date for a music show, involving over 200,000 parameters of control across 682 DMX universes.
The 68th Eurovision Song Contest, organized by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and hosted for the seventh time by Sveriges Television (SVT), was staged in Malmö for the third time and the second time at the Malmö Arena, following the success of the 2013 “We Are One” themed ESC event.
Over 163 million viewers tuned in to the final of ESC 2024 via public service media channels, with votes cast from 156 countries around the world. The event reached nearly 500 million accounts on TikTok.
Eurovision Song Contest 2024 was won by Switzerland’s Nemo with their song “The Code.”
